Penn State lost another four-star prospect Monday following linebacker Mathieu Lamah’s decision to officially flip his commitment to Virginia Tech. The Manassas, Va., native took an official visit with head coach James Franklin and his staff two weeks ago.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, Lamah earned an offer from Penn State last November and was considered a Nittany Lion lean throughout most of his recruitment. An offer from Michigan in January gave him something to consider, but the Lions were eventually able to secure his commitment in early May.

“Throughout the whole recruiting process, it was Penn State for me since that first visit,” Lamah said. “I was always comparing every school to Penn State.”

Following athletic director Pat Kraft’s decision to make a coaching change, Lamah had interest from a handful of schools. Rutgers and West Virginia also hosted him for official visits, but their efforts weren’t enough to keep him from following Franklin to Blacksburg.

Lamah is one of many current or former Penn State commits who visited Virginia Tech in the past two weeks. Tight end Pierce Petersohn, running back Messiah Mickens, safety Matt Sieg, Troy Huhn and offensive linemen Marlen BrightBen Eziuka and Roseby Lubintus all visited with Franklin the weekend of Nov. 22-23. That was followed by cornerback Amauri Polydor, linebacker Terry Wiggins and defensive ends Jackson Ford and Tyson Harley visiting Blacksburg this past weekend, Nov. 29-30.

Following Huhn’s committment to Virginia Tech earlier on Monday, Lamah is now the sixth former Penn State recruit that’s set to sign with the Hokies. Mickens, Petersohn, Bright and Lubintus have also committed to Franklin.

“He moves so well through traffic. He can also go sideline to sideline,” said Patriot High School coach Sean Finnerty. “He’s got clips on his highlight film that show that. He can run, but his strong suit is definitely his lateral movement, and then his ability to come downhill.”

Lamah holds a four-star rating by Rivals. He’s the 21st-ranked linebacker and fifth overall in Virginia for his class. Penn State is now down to just six commits in the 2026 class. The early signing period begins this Wednesday, Dec. 3.
