Penn State made the recruiting class of 2021 available to the media for the first time as Nittany Lions football players on Wednesday. Blue White Illustrated was on had to speak to them and get the first impression of the group. Host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, senior editor Nate Bauer, and reporter Greg Pickel give you their thoughts about the players they spoke to Wednesday. They do so on-location from the Penn State outdoor practice facility.

Meeting the Class of 2021

Pickel starts by relating his conversation by relating his feelings about the group and his major takeaway about their collective personality. Next, he brings up redshirt freshman quarterback Christian Veilleux, defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg, and linebacker Kobe King.

Of course, Bauer brings a unique perspective on what he was interested in asking the players and relates an interesting story he learned from Veilleux. T-Frank also mentions the freshman quarterback and relates what impressed him most about the young Canadian.

Penn State takes: The biggest worries on offense, defense, and special teams 100 days prior to kickoff

One hundred days is all that separates Penn State football from the start of another season.

It might seem like the 2022 opener at Purdue on Thur., Sept. 1 is still a long way away. On the calendar, it is. But, when it comes to finding answers so that the Lions can have their best season yet, time is of the essence. After all, there are only so many meeting, workout, and practice opportunities left to get ready for game day.

Each Tuesday, Blue-White Illustrated offers a batch of takes on topics related to the Nittany Lions. This week, we’re looking at the top worry facing each of James Franklin’s coordinators months before kickoff.

The top worry on offense is a familiar one

It’s a familiar tune this time of year, but also a true one: Our top Penn State worry on offense focuses on the unit charged with protecting Sean Clifford while also opening up holes for the running backs.

Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein is back for another season in blue and white. He had guard Sal Wormley back at his disposal during spring practice after the veteran missed all of last season due to injury. But, those days of drills were marred by a rash of availability issues that left the Lions with hardly a two-deep upfront. In fact, it was so limited on numbers that the Blue-White scrimmage had to be modified to account for it.
