Penn State has had success in Berks County over the last few cycles, nabbing commitments from J’Ven Williams and Joey Schlaffer last cycle and Nick Singleton in the Class of 2022. The Nittany Lions went back to the well in the Class of 2024 with Williams’ former teammate at Wyomissing, jumbo athlete Caleb Brewer. Brewer committed to Penn State on Saturday while on campus for the Blue-White Game.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound high school tight end is projected by most schools as an interior offensive lineman, although some have shown interest in him as a defensive lineman. He’s a three-star prospect by the On3 Industry Rankings and the No. 34 interior offensive lineman nationally. Brewer is currently rated as the No. 15 prospect in Pennsylvania by the Industry Rankings.

The Nittany Lions offered Brewer back in January while he was on campus for a Junior Day. Penn State also hosted him for a game back in October. He grew up very familiar with the Nittany Lions, but got a closer look at James Franklin’s program over the winter.

“I learned how much coach Franklin is invested in academics and players succeeding in life, not just in football. I really liked that,” Brewer said. “He was basically saying that kids will get their masters before they [leave Penn State]. He said that if you come here, then you are getting your degree. I really liked that, because education is important to me.”

Penn State sees Brewer as a versatile piece up front

Penn State grew familiar with Brewer while watching Williams, a Top 50 player in the Class of 2023 who enrolled at University Park for the spring semester. Brewer played as a blocking tight end and on the defensive line for Wyomissing, who fell in the PIAA Class 3A state title game in 2022. He is also a wrestler and a thrower in track and field. Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has been recruiting Brewer for the Nittany Lions.

“Penn State is a great college,” he said. “I really like [Trautwein], he seems like a great coach that I would like to get coached by. He talked to me throughout the day and was telling me that he thinks I would be a great player there.”

Brewer also holds scholarship offers from Duke, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and others.
