Penn State defensive end Joseph Mupoyi hit the transfer portal earlier this week. He already knows where he’ll play next. The defensive tackle is transferring to North Carolina. On3’s Pete Nakos first reported the news. He is the second Nittany Lion to move on to the Tar Heels this offseason. Defensive end Smith Vilbert did the same earlier this year.

Mupoyi played in two games over two seasons in State College. A one-time four-star recruit, Mupoyi had work to do to carve out a role for position coach Deion Barnes during his third college season, let alone a significant one.

Mupoyi will have three years of eligibility remaining. He is joined in transferring this spring by linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson (who is now at USC), cornerback Jon Mitchell (who has already picked Georgia Tech), linebacker Beckham Dee, offensive lineman JB Nelson, and kicker Chase Meyer. Meyer hit the portal after one year in State College on Thursday. The spring transfer portal window closes on Friday at 11:59 PM. However, due to the rule giving compliance offices 48 hours to process paperwork, players will likely show up in the portal as late as Sunday.
