Penn State defensive tackle enters NCAA transfer portal

A fifth Penn State football player is entering the transfer portal during the spring window. On3’s Pete Nakos reports that redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Joseph Mupoyi is leaving the Nittany Lions. He played in two games over two seasons in State College. A former four-star recruit, Mupoyi likely had work to do to carve out a significant role for position coach Deion Barnes during his third college season.
Mupoyi, who will have three years of eligibility remaining, is joined in transferring this spring by linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson, cornerback Jon Mitchell (who has already picked Georgia Tech), linebacker Beckham Dee, and offensive lineman JB Nelson.
As a high school recruit, Mupoyi took just two official visits. One was to Penn State and the other to Michigan. It’s unclear if the Wolverines will be a player in his portal recruitment.
The spring NCAA transfer portal window closes this coming Friday.

“Once again, it’s really kind of a “no surprises” discussion,” Lions coach James Franklin said last week. “And what I mean by that, if the players have any issues or concerns, we want them to come in and talk to us. We’ve talked already to the team about how we’re handling the 105. That was addressed before the first window. That was addressed before this window. So everybody is on the same page. I meet with the players a lot, and there needs to be a communication, two-way street. So right now, we’re not having meetings obviously during spring ball, but there needs to be communication.”
Here is a look at the current Penn State roster count by position as of April 22. This chart will be updated if and when any additional portal entries take place. Note that it does not include the members of the Class of 2025 who have not yet enrolled in classes.
