Penn State football had eight players drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. Not only that, the Nittany Lions had a player chosen on each day of the daft, and the BWI Live show is here to recap the weekend. Host and film analyst Thomas Frank Carr will take you through his notes about the draft, undrafted players, and how each one fits in with their new team. Reporter Dave Eckert and senior Editor Nate Bauer will also give their thoughts on the weekend

Penn State finds success in 2022 NFL Draft

They’ll also discuss how these events affect Penn State football. For example, did Rasheed Walker and Brandon Smith make a mistake by leaving with eligibility? How does this help Penn State recruit athletes? Finally, why did Penn State struggle so much despite having draftable talent?

They will also recap new athletic director Patrick Kraft’s introductory press conference. What stood out about his tone, comments, and thoughts from Friday’s event? Finally, the trio will discuss the man plotting the future of Penn State’s athletic department.

The panel will answer these questions and whatever you have on your mind during the hour-long show. Have a question or a thought? Then, join BWI Live at noon on YouTube to interact with the staff!

How Brandon Smith fits the Carolina Panthers defense

The Carolina Panthers were the team to finally gamble on one of the biggest boom-or-bust prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft. Former Penn State linebacker Brandon Smith heads to Carolina to meet with former Penn State player and State College native Matt Ruhle.

We’ll get to how the Panthers and Smith fit in just a moment, but before we do, here’s what I wrote this week about Smith’s best fit going forward.

Still, he’s a quality coverage player, and he did improve throughout last season. The most logical path would be to keep him as a Will linebacker at the next level. His best skill is blowing up players underneath coverage and devastating receivers in the flat. This knack for blitzing would be the best use of his talents.

If he were a more instinctive player, I’d try him out at Mike linebacker. He reminds me in some ways of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner. Warner played Sam in college but had a massive frame and excellent coverage skills. The 49ers gave the former Cougar time to develop at middle linebacker, and Warner became the player best at his position in the NFL.
