The BWI Daily Recruiting show sets the stage for a busy summer of Penn State recruiting news today. As we enter the second half of the month, recruiting news focuses on official visit lists and when players take their trips to various schools. Insider Ryan Snyder joins reporter Greg Pickel to dish that information and more.

A new pick for Penn State with four-star safety

Pickel starts the show by discussing the upcoming timeline for commitments this summer. Snyder predicts that it will be a busy July, just like last year. Next, they dive into Snyder’s recruiting prediction this week for a Florida defensive back. He outlines when he expects the player to commit and what gave him the confidence to put the pick in now.

Next, they break down the movement for Penn State targets in the On300 rankings for the Class of 2024. First, Snyder and Pickel discuss which players moved where and how that affected the Nittany Lion’s one commit for the cycle, offensive lineman Cooper Cousins. Next, they explain why the rankings have been updated already.

After that, Pickel opens up the topic of top school lists by critical recruits. Penn State made the cut for DeMatha Catholic defensive lineman Jason Moore and linebacker Dee Crayton. So what are the Lions chances with Moore? Snyder gives his insight and explains how Penn State’s priorities have shifted at linebacker. He brings up a critical name that fans should know at the linebacker position.

Boasting a returning star, a handful of talented incoming freshmen, and plenty of experienced depth, safety seems like one of the strongest position groups in Penn State’s facility coming out of spring practice. With spring ball comfortably in the rear-view mirror and training camp in the not-too-distant future, BWI is presenting three key questions for the position group as it’s currently constituted.

1. Can Ji’Ayir Brown keep up his interception prowess?

It’s clear to everyone who watched Penn State football last season that Ji’Ayir Brown is an excellent football player.

Cornerbacks coach Terry Smith called him the Nittany Lions’ best asset on the defensive side of the ball. Reliable and aggressive, he should headline what many anticipate will be a very stingy Nittany Lion secondary unit in 2022.

As the Penn State staff emphasizes repeatedly, there is nothing more valuable for a defense than takeaways. And Brown created plenty of them last season, tying for the nation’s lead with six interceptions.
