Watch Penn State head coach James Franklin's Tuesday press conference
Penn State head coach James Franklin was back with the media Tuesday to recap Saturday’s loss against Michigan and look ahead to Senior Day against Rutgers.
The Nittany Lions were close to upsetting No. 6 Michigan Saturday, taking the lead with about five minutes to play. However, mistakes in coverage allowed a 47-yard touchdown by tight end Erick All, and Penn State wasn’t able to respond.
Looking ahead to Rutgers, Franklin once again stressed that improving the run game will remain a major focus. Rutgers’ rushing defense has improved substantially this season. That’s why Franklin thinks it’ll be a key matchup and challenge for Penn State on Saturday.
As for the key questions, Franklin was asked why the team hasn’t announced a roster for Saturday’s Senior Day celebration. Due to the NCAA adding an extra-year of eligibility, Franklin clarified that much is still to be decided.

“Some guys may not walk with the intention of coming back, some guys may walk and still haven’t made that decision yet until we sit down after the season and decide,” Franklin said.

The Penn State offensive line was also a popular topic. Mike Miranda left the game last week, opening the door for Bryce Effner. Franklin was asked specifically about Landon Tengwall and some younger players.
“We’d like to get Landon some experience these last couple of games,” Franklin said. “I think you guys have seen Effner has played. We’d like to get him some more experience as well. Olu [Fashanu] is another guy that we’re very high on and would like to get him some experience.”
Franklin was also asked about a status update on Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford, who wasn’t made available following the Michigan game.
“I’m proud of Sean. Sean is a competitor. He’s tough. He’s given everything he can to this program, this university and his teammates. But he was beat up. He was getting hit too many times. I think he took five hits, besides the sacks.”
