The Penn State Nittany Lions travel to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes for the last time until at least the 2028 season. While the multi-decade series is coming to an end for the time being, it doesn’t have to go out with a whimper. Despite the team’s 3-4 record going up against the undefeated Buckeyes, the game still had juice for both sides. What is going to happen today? Join the Penn State Football Tailgate Show today at 9 a.m. to find out! We’re discussing the storylines, matchups, and things you need to know heading into the game for 90 minutes.

Penn State vs Ohio State preview

As we’ve been saying all week, the tone and tenor around this game is unlike anything we expected heading into the 2025 season. Penn State was supposed to be 7-0, or at least 6-1, and headed to another College Football Playoff berth with a potential Big Ten Championship on the line during the first Saturday in November.

Instead, the team is on an entirely new trajectory. It’s a good time to sit back and reflect on how we got to this point, and discuss what the rest of the season means for the team and fans. Can Penn State win today? If so, what does that mean for the program in a state of flux? We’ll discuss.

Ohio State’s offense brings an unfamiliar look to the field

Next, we’ll discuss the key matchup of today’s game. Is it the Penn State secondary against Ohio State’s all-world receivers? Or is it something else? We’ll describe the new-look Buckeyes offense under quarterback Julian Sayin and discuss the different ways that the home team can play this game. We’ll also discuss how Penn State can try to counter them after a bye week to recalibrate the team’s identity under interim head coach Terry Smith.

Next, we’ll discuss the Penn State offense and what it has done during the bye week to change its destiny on that side of the football. How does the offense head into Ohio Stadium and compete with the best defense in college football? We’ll lay out the formula for success and how the team could put together a blueprint to attack Ohio State’s vaunted defense.

Join us live at 10 a.m. on YouTube to discuss all of that and more! We’ll also bring you a preview of today’s Big Ten action and give you the latest on the availability report before the game.
