Penn State introduces Matt Campbell to the program

After a two-month coaching search, the Penn State administration introduced Campbell on Monday. University president Neeli Bendapudi and athletic director Pat Kraft spoke first before Campbell’s opening statements.

Campbell has been a sought-after asset at the college and NFL level for years at Iowa State. He declined plenty of opportunities in recent years and explained why when aked why Penn State was the right place.

“COVID hit, and you had this grace period, you usually don’t get that until they fire you. And you’re sitting at home that spring, and I remember looking at my wife, we have four children at the time, and I said, “This is what’s going on at home?”

“And it was humbling to be honest.”

He went on to say that it shifted his perspective on what he wanted if he were ever to move from Ames.

“Number one is, if you’re ever going to leave or you’re ever going to move, it better be about your family. We’re two and a half hours away from home to be able to have my father and my mother and my brother and my wife’s family be able to come be a part of this journey with me, that means a lot.”
