Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 10 include an update on the Lions hockey team, Saquon Barkley, the opening spread at Michigan, and more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about past, current, and former Nittany Lions.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with an update on the Penn State men’s hockey team. Head coach Guy Gadowsky’s Nittany Lions swept Canisius to open the season. The team won 5-2 on Friday night and 7-5 on Saturday at the Pegula Ice Arena in State College. Freshman goalie Noah Grannan picked up his first win in the second contest.

“Anytime a freshman comes in and plays his first game of college hockey, it’s special,” Gadowsky told The Daily Collegian. “Especially because of the situation he was put in… I think he played extremely well.”

Elsewhere, former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley had another big performance as he continues his resurgence this year with the New York Giants. Barkley carried 13 times for 70 yards and a touchdown and also hauled in three passes for 36 yards in the team’s 27-22 win over Green Bay. In other alumni news, Micah Parsons had five tackles (one for loss) and two sacks in Dallas’ 22-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Quote of the day

“It’s a system I would have really liked playing in, just because it allows you to really make plays in the backfield at linebacker. We don’t really play at level two and sift across. Whatever gap you’re in, that’s what you got. So you’re an A gap player, you don’t have to worry about the edge or anything. You can run right through the A gap. And usually, your coverage when we’re in man, it’ll be the running back or something within the box.”
