Penn State Nittany Lions hockey has finalized its 2022 recruiting class set to join next season.

Along with transfer additions Ashton Calder and Ture Linden, the Nittany Lions have signed five freshmen.

Among those freshmen are three defensemen, one forward and a goaltender.

Defenseman Jarod Crespo

Jarod Crespo is a right-shot defenseman who played with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League.

Crespo posted 28 points in 58 games during his final season in Green Bay, while serving as the Gamblers’ captain.

“I chose Penn State because of the culture,” Crespo said in a statement. “Penn State has a culture that everyone should want to be a part of.”

Defenseman Dylan Gratton

Guy Gadowsky has never shied away from recruiting siblings, and in this class he lands Dylan Gratton, the younger brother of current forward Tyler Gratton.

Gratton’s Sioux City Muskateers are still wrapping up their playoff campaign. He’s scored three times in 63 games while adding 16 assists.

“I chose Penn State because of the culture that has been built from the players that came before me,” he said in a statement. “They’ve instilled a knack to win as well as a playing style that I think my game will fit perfectly. Penn State also gives you every opportunity needed to succeed not only on the ice but in the classroom.”

Defenseman Carter Schade

A former No. 1 overall pick in the USHL Draft, Carter Schade brings an exciting skillset to Hockey Valley.

Schade showed his skill as a puck-moving defenseman with 27 assists in 55 games for the Lincoln Stars last season.

“I chose Penn State because of the culture and family atmosphere and, for me, it’s the best place to further my hockey career and get a top-level education,” he said.

Forward Alex Servagno

Alex Servagno is a left-shot forward who served as a fixture in the lineup for the Green Bay Gamblers for three seasons.

Last season, he showcased an uptick in offensive production, scoring 15 times and adding 26 assists in 59 games.

“I chose Penn State because of the culture and how they strive to make everyone feel like family,” he said. “Also, by attending Penn State I will be provided with the best education and training.”

Goaltender Noah Grannan

Penn State also added an intriguing goaltender prospect in Noah Grannan, who spent time with the highly-touted US National Team Development Program.

A former Wisconsin commit, Grannan moved to the Sioux Falls Stampede ahead of the 2020-21 season. This year, he managed a 3.25 goals-against average and an .891 save percentage.

“I chose Penn State because of the relationships I developed with the coaches and the atmosphere on campus,” he said.
