Penn State hosted over 70 prospects Saturday for its annual Whiteout Camp at Beaver Stadium. Just like in previous years, this year’s camp was deep with talent, as James Franklin and his staff welcomed a host of potential scholarship players, as well as some who are already committed.

That list included future Penn State quarterback Marcus Stokes, who traveled north from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., to workout with Franklin, offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and the rest of the staff.

Stokes, who committed to Penn State back in April, showed why Yurcich pursued him over players like Jaden Rashada, JJ Kohl and others, as Stokes was consistent throughout the afternoon. Out of the quarterbacks in attendance, he was easily the top performer. He also paired up with Pennsylvania native Yazeed Haynes regularly. Haynes, who was previously committed to Rutgers, picked up an offer from Penn State Saturday.

Stokes also performed well in testing, running a 4.8-second 40-yard dash, 4.5-second shuttle and an 8-foot, 9-inch broad jump.

In addition to Stokes, Penn State hosted a loaded group of prospects that featured a few other committed players. The list included four offensive linemen: Alex Birchmeier, Jven Williams, Anthony Donkoh and Cooper Cousins. Cornerback Lamont Payne was also in attendance.

Marcus Stokes Scouting Evaluation

The first thing that jumps out about Marcus Stokes is his quick release and live arm. You can really see this in the camp setting. Stokes gets the ball out fast. He can deliver from multiple arm slots and is comfortable making off-platform throws.

Stokes is able to generate considerable zip, especially on short and intermediate throws. He’s competitive and plays with an edge. We also see Stokes show off some above average mobility as a runner. He had a good junior season and isn’t at a top program, but could stand to improve his production moving forward.”
