On3 Consensus four-star prospect Neeo Avery has decommited from Penn State.

Avery, listed by On3 as an EDGE, gave the Nittany Lions his verbal commitment on December 31, 2021, but is re-opening his recruitment.

“I just want to start this off by saying thank you to the whole Penn State staff for taking a chance on me and giving me an opportunity to play ball at the next level,” Avery wrote. “For that, I can’t thank y’all enough and this decision that my family and I have come to has been very hard. But with that being said I will be decommitting and my recruitment is 100% back open.”

Standing at 6-foot-4.5, 225 pounds, Avery is the No. 196 overall prospect in the Class of 2023. The On3 Consensus ranks the Good Counsel product as the No. 21 EDGE and No. 3 prospect in the state of Maryland.

Avery took unofficial visits to Georgia, Kentucky and Maryland before committing to Penn State.

According to On3’s Chad Simmons, Avery “almost” committed to the Bulldogs over the summer.

He also holds offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan and others.
