The Penn State and college football newsstand for Dec. 8 is full of recruiting updates.

That should come as no surprise. The early National Signing Day, after all, is only a week away.

Head coach James Franklin and his staff are working to keep the class together amid actual and possible coaching changes. Two of their longest-tenured commitments also received good news on Tuesday.

Let’s take a look at the day’s top tweets and headlines about PSU and the sport in general.

Penn State tweets of the day

We’ll kick things off with newly-minuted Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year Nicholas Singleton. The On3 Consensus five-star and 6-foot, 210-pound running back is one of three finalists for the overall national honor.

Similarly on the recruiting front, next we have a rankings update. Penn State quarterback commit Drew Allar, who is from Medina, Ohio, is also now an On3 Consensus five-star like Singleton.

As for coaches on the road, offensive line coach Phil Trautwein was in Ohio Thursday. While there, he stopped by the school of top 2023 offensive line prospect Luke Montgomery. The Penn State assistant also offered rising junior Austin Siereveld, who is a future guard from Cincinnati.

Offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was also on the road. He extended a new Class of 2023 offer to four-star Denton, Tex., quarterback Jackson Arnold.

In current team news, quarterback Sean Clifford did not win the William V. Campbell award on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. The ‘academic Heisman Trophy” went to Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar.

The Penn State quarterback did receive a plaque for being a finalist, however.

Penn State co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Anthony Poindexter was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday night. He is a member of the Class of 2020.

In addition, there is still no word as of Wednesday morning in regards to whether or not the Virginia football legend will actually take the open Cavaliers head coaching job.

Finally, for this section, multiple Penn State players made the AP All-Big Ten teams.

Quote of the day

“Nick Singleton has a dynamic combination of speed and power for a running back.

“He can get the tough yards or he can break any run for a touchdown if you give him a little seam. In my 18 years coaching high school football, I’ve never seen another running back with the skill set that he has.”

–Denver, Pa., Cocalico High head coach Bryan Strohl in a press release on Nick Singleton, who was the Pa. Gatorade Player of the Year honor.
