This week, Penn State football is in Tampa, Florida, to face Arkansas in the Outback Bowl. To get ready for the game, the host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, has taken a deep dive into the Arkansas offense and has a scouting report prepared on the Razorbacks.

Penn State Opt Out News

He starts the show off with the news that Jaquan Brisker has opted out of the bowl game. It’s another blow to the Penn State defenses’ efforts and one that will sting more, given how Arkansas plays on offense. T-Frank also points out that defensive end Arnold Ebiketie has yet to announce his intentions at the time of recording.

Arkansas Offensive Breakdown

The absence of Brisker, along with linebackers Ellis Brooks and Brandon Smith, is especially challenging because Arkansas is a run-first football team. While they have power concepts in their attack, they are more of a zone-based run-blocking team, which causes even more issues for the Penn State defense without its stalwart linebackers. So T-Frank explains how they create those problems and why Arkansas is so unique as a rushing team.

The rushing offense is not based around their running backs, but quarterback KJ Jefferson, T-Frank explains why Penn State will struggle to keep him contained and not just on scrambles. He shows how Jefferson’s blend of skills opens up a diverse set of run schemes for the Razorbacks and how the whole team benefits from it.

Then, T-Frank examines Jefferson as a passer and finds he isn’t lacking there either. He shows when Jefferson is asked to drop back with no gimmicks in the offense and is surprised by the results.

Penn State vs Good Offensive Lines

Penn State has faced several good offensive lines this season, but they have not met as many standout linemen. However, they will on Saturday, and T-Frank tells you which Razorback blocker made him take notice during his film review.

From there, he takes a look at the skill position players and shows how the Razorbacks use multiple backs but only one receiver. How will Arkansas adjust their playcalling with superstar wideout Treylon Burks opting out of the bowl game?

He wraps up the show by asking some open-ended questions that he’s looking for answers to this week. T-Frank is interested in knowing which linebackers will suit Penn State and where. Finally, don’t forget to check back later in the week to see T-Frank’s breakdown of the Arkansas defense.
