It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. Nittany Lion All-American and 141-pound starter Beau Bartlett was named the Big Ten co-wrestler of the week on Wednesday.

“Bartlett, a senior, rolled to the Black Knight Invite championship with a 4-0 run, including three straight pins to start the tournament,” A Penn State news release says. “He pinned Riley Halal of Brown at 2:36, Joe Fongaro of Rutgers at 4:48 and Rich Treanor of Army West Point at 3:57 to advance to the title bout. In the finals, he used a late takedown to notch a hard-fought 4-1 win over teammate Tyler Kasak. Bartlett is now 7-0 on the year with four pins and a major. He improved his career record to 57-16. Penn State crowned five champions at the event and had 12 of its 17 wrestlers place.”

Bartlett is the second Lion to win the Big Ten wrestler of the week honor in as many weeks. Shayne Van Ness, another All-American who starts at 149 pounds, won it a week ago.

Penn State, Manny Diaz ‘attacking’ style lifts Lions: Bauer, BWI

Quote of the day

“He has a lot of knowledge about the game, period. And how the offense is trying to attack the defense. But the defense that he has manufactured here at Penn State, it’s very unique. In terms of Penn State’s defense history, you see a lot of bend, don’t break.

“What Manny brings to the table is, he’s on attack mode the minute we kick the ball off and start P and 10. And he wants to dictate. He’s not going to allow an offense to say, ‘This is what we’re going to do and we’d be reactive.’ He’s going to be proactive on that end of it.”
