Penn State football has another busy weekend of recruiting on its hands, starting today. To get fans primed for what to expect, recruiting insiders Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder preview the important visitors coming this weekend and give fans the scope of how many players will be on campus. They also preview some of their work on recruiting from the past week and what’s to come this weekend.

Penn State working to land an in-state wide receiver

Before getting to the weekend visitors, Snyder updates the audience on his conversation with three-star wide receiver from Harrisburg, Rico Scott. However, they’ll have to fend off some steep competition.

“One, he’s certainly a take for Penn State. It’s been Rico’s been going to a lot of Southern schools. I think fans have kind of wondered where he’s at on the board. Penn State’s always going to take the best players from Harrisburg. What I’m just going to be curious to see is which of those schools are pushing really hard for him,” Snyder says.

Fast-rising defensive tackle visiting again

Penn State has a screaming need for quality defensive tackles and Maryland native Xavier Gilliam might be that player. The fast-rising junior has a three-star rating, but is quickly climbing the internal Penn State rankings.

“6-3, 250 as a high school junior pretty much means you’ll be an interior guy unless you’re a special kind of athlete. This is a guy who Penn State’s I think he’s moved up the board quite a bit. And you and I have talked to two people on this side, and his name comes up a lot more than it used to,” Fitz comments.

However, one critical piece of information will determine how much more Gilliam can move up the board.

“Certainly, a guy where measurables that that’ll be something I’m asking about immediately because his last visit was April 2022. So almost a full year ago, you know, and then and at the time when he was on campus. I think once we’re able to get them, everybody will kind of see that he is certainly going to be a D-tackle. There are a couple of things to note at Wild Lake, his school in Columbia, Maryland. His head coach is a Penn State alum,” Snyder adds.
