The minute that CBS Sports draft analyst Chris Trapasso penned his “way too early” mock draft, you could feel the Penn State sports community turn on its axis. In it, he named former NittanyLion signal-caller Will Levis the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Levis transferred to Kentucky last offseason and had a solid first season for all intents and purposes. He guided the Wildcats to a 10-3 record and second in the SEC East. He put up just over 2,800 yards and 24 touchdowns to 13 interceptions on the way to that record. But does that make him the top pick? While debating Levis’ future in the NFL Draft is a simple projection for draft analysts like Trapasso, the conversation around Levis has a deeper and darker context for Penn State. Did the Nittany Lions make a mistake sticking with Sean Clifford? That story is a more extended, more complicated mess to untangle and one that we certainly cannot do in one article. So to do this right, we’ll take a look at Levis before he left Penn State and paint the picture of what he was as a Nittany Lion before his move to Kentucky. Then we’ll look at him as a Wildcat to see what happened after leaving Happy Valley. Today, we’ll scout Will Levis, the Penn State QB.
