Penn State football takes the field 100 days from Thursday when it battles Nevada on Aug. 30 in its 2025 season opener. A start time for the contest at Beaver Stadium will not come out until next week. But, the Nittany Lions are already a massive 43.5-point favorite for the non-conference clash at DraftKings. The game will mark the first meeting between the two schools. The Wolfpack are led by second-year head coach Jeff Choate and are coming off a 3-10 2024 season.

Head coach James Franklin’s team has much to accomplish over the next three months and change. The primary focus right now is on high school recruiting. Official visit season is underway and camps are right around the corner. For the players, they just kicked off the summer semester back on Monday, which brought some newcomers to town from both the Class of 2025 and the transfer portal. The team will soon begin summer workouts, which mix strength-staff-led activities with player-led work.

“We have a ton of time to really get better at this because, obviously, between summer classes and summer workouts, we’ll be able to spend a lot of time together throwing, and we already have that stuff mapped out with the strength staff,” quarterback Drew Allar said after the Blue-White game. “So, we’re making it as efficient as possible and also getting the most work out of it as we can.”

As noted above, the first three games will receive kick time and television designations next week. From there, recruiting will continue to reign supreme before Big Ten Media Days serve as the unofficial start to the 2025 season July 22-24 in Las Vegas.

Quote of the day

“I didn’t want to go way too high with Allar and make the mistake that I did last year with Carson Beck. And so, I put him at five. This is just, like, a patient deal where I think he can play higher than this. I wouldn’t be shocked if Drew Allar was actually in Heisman conversations during the course of the middle or even the second half of the season.”

“The tools are there and so Allar has just got to go out there and prove it,” said Klatt. “So does Penn State, so does James Franklin. So we’ll see if they can do that.”
