Penn State football did not land any recruits over the weekend. However, it took a big step forward with two Class of 2023 recruits and also offered an underclassmen.

The newsstand for May 16 is packed with information on the Lions and college athletics. Let’s dive in.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Fort Washington (Md.) DeMatha Catholic defensive lineman Jason Moore. He now has a top five of MarylandPenn StateMichiganNotre Dame, and Ohio State. The On3 Consensus four-star recruit and top-40 player nationally plans to decide in July and will be at PSU June 3.

“Going into the official visits, all five schools are on the same line. I have formed relationships with coaches from each of the schools and I just have that gut feeling about each one of them,” Moore told On3’s Chad Simmons.

“No matter what, with any of these schools, I would make a good decision. Now, I will take the visits and go off what feels right. Who makes me feel welcome, who makes it feel like home, and where can I see myself at over the next three to four years. That is what it will come down to.”

Penn State also made the top five for Alpharetta (Ga.) Denmark linebacker Dee Crayton. The On3 Consensus four-star recruit is now considering only PSU, Auburn, Clemson, UCF, and Missouri.

The Lions have to set up an official visit still with Crayton, who stands 6-foot-1, 222 pounds. Once that happens, they’ll be in a better position to land him. That said, Clemson currently leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Finally, for this section, Penn State offered Hiram, Ga., four-star athlete Walter Mathews on Sunday. He is a top-100 player in the Class of 2024.

Quote of the day

“Coach [James] Franklin is a players-friendly coach that cares about his players and he would be great to play for. The last time I was up there, it was my best visit ever. Coach Franklin spoke with me and my dad, with my mom, and he was so open and honest about everything. That is what I am looking for. He and his staff are so honest and that stands out a lot.”
