Where does Penn State rank in the updated Coaches Poll?
Penn State moved up this week in the Coaches Poll, climbing to No. 5 with just three weeks remaining in the regular season. The Nittany Lions put together one of the best performances of the season Saturday night, dominating Washington on both sides of the ball for an easy 35-6 win in this year’s White Out game.
Not only did PSU’s offense score touchdowns on four consecutive drives to open the game, but they also more than doubled Washington in total yardage, finishing with 486 yards to just 193 for the Huskies.
But Penn State’s rise in the polls is largely because of two interesting results Saturday, as Miami lost to Georgia Tech, 28-23, and Georgia lost to Ole Miss, 28-10. The Hurricanes remain the team to beat in the ACC and would get a first-round bye if they win their conference championship game. Georgia’s path to the SEC Championship is still alive as well, but they’ll have to get past Tennessee next week before facing in-state rival Tech at the end of the season.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, top-ranked Oregon remained undefeated with a 39-18 win over Maryland. The Ducks were a bit sloppy at times, totaling 12 penalities, but three turnovers by the Terps ultimately crushed any chance that Mike Locksley’s team could pull an upset.
Ohio State, who’s now up to No. 2 in the Coaches Poll, had no issues with Purdue, defeating the Boilermakers 45-0. Just like Penn State, the Buckeyes more than doubled Purdue’s total yardage (433 to 206). They also limited Purdue to just two third-down conversions.

Indiana, who climbed to No. 6 in the poll, also kept its undefeated run going, defeating Michigan 20-15 at home. The Hoosiers started out strong offensively but were largely held in check through most of the game, totaling just 246 yards of offense, including just 40 yards rushing. Michigan also had two first-and-goal situations that resulted in field goals instead of touchdowns.
