In a surprise development, Purdue defensive tackle Branson Deen posted on Twitter today that he has entered the transfer portal and won’t play in the bowl. The fifth-year senior, an honorable mention All-Big Ten choice each of the last two seasons, is a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility.

Despite jumping into the portal, Deen still plans to play in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 2 vs. LSU.

Deen has been a key player up front this season, making 11 starts in 2022. He missed two games (Northwestern and Indiana) with injury. Deen has made 27 tackles with 4.0 TFLs and 2.5 sacks this season.

Deen has played in 38 games with 26 starts at Purdue, making 73 tackles, 15.5 TFLs and 7.5 sacks.

Deen is the fifth scholarship player to hit the portal since the end of the season, joining G Spencer Holstege, RB Kobe Lewis, DL Greg Hudgins and DB Rickey Smith.
