Ryan Walters’ first staff will add another piece with Ole Miss cornerbacks coach Sam Carter set to come aboard, GoldandBlack.com has learned.

Carter worked in Oxford, Miss., in 2022 for Lane Kiffin. Before that, Carter was on Sam Pittman’s staff at Arkansas in 2020-21. Carter was a quality control coach for Barry Odom at Missouri from 2016-19, where he worked with Walters.

Carter was a standout, All-Big 12 safety at TCU.

Carter is the eighth known hire for Walters, joining offensive coordinator Graham Harrell (West Virginia offensive coordinator), defensive coordinator Kevin Kane (Illinois associate head coach/OLB coach), outside linebackers coach Joe Dineen (Illinois GA), secondary coach Grant O’Brien (Illinois defensive analyst), receivers coach Cory Patterson (Illinois running backs), tight ends coach Seth Doege (Ole Miss analyst) and defensive line coach Brick Haley (Minnesota defensive line). Walters also has tabbed Kiero Small (Michigan) as strength coach.
