In a bit of a surprise, Purdue didn’t have one player named first-, second- or third-team All-Big Ten on defense or special teams despite winning the Big Ten West in 2022.

Purdue has the No. 6 total defense in the Big Ten (365.2 ypg). The scoring defense is No. 7 (22.4 ppg) for the Boilermakers (8-4 overall; 6-3 Big Ten), who will play Michigan in the Big Ten title game on Saturday. The run defense is No. 12 (156.5 ypg) in the Big Ten, while the pass defense is No. 5 (208.7 ypg). And Purdue is No. 6 in takeaways (17).

Purdue did have seven defensive players named honorable mention All-Big Ten, including Jalen Graham, Branson Deen, Cory Trice, Kydran Jenkins, Jack Sullivan, Cam Allen and Lawrence Johnson on Tuesday, when the league office announced defensive and special teams all-league players. Trice, Sullivan and Graham were selected by both the media and coaches.

Charlie Jones was consensus honorable mention special teams as a return man.

On Wednesday, the Big Ten will announce its offensive honorees.
