AP Top 25 moves SMU up after impressive win over Pitt
After landing at No. 15 in the Coaches Poll, the AP Top 25 moved the SMU Mustangs up as well after the 45-28 win over Pitt. Rhett Lashlee’s team is now the No. 13 team in America.
SMU’s offense bounced back after a turnover-filled night against Duke to roll up 467 total yards and play turnover free. Quarterback Kevin Jennings and running back Brashard Smith led the way with huge nights against the Panthers.
For the Mustangs, who are in control of their destiny to play for an ACC Championship, they have to keep their head down and just keep working. The league is tough enough where a team can jump up and beat you at any given moment.
“It’s kind of all the same, like we still had, no matter whether someone else lost or not, we had to just keep doing and we still do,” Lashlee said. “We’ve got three games left and we go out and if don’t take care of our business, and it doesn’t matter. But there, to your point, there was no guarantees. There was four undefeated conference teams coming into this day, now there’s two. So I don’t know, our team and our staff has done a really good job of literally being present and just working on chasing the standard that this team has set for ourselves each week. They did it tonight at a high level.”
