Braylon Williams details SMU commitment, family feeling

2027 Arlington (Tex.) Lamar linebacker Braylon Williams committed to SMU on his official visit on Friday. The visit weekend went as planned, which led to his commitment a couple weeks earlier than planned.

“I think it went great. Love the atmosphere,” Williams told On The Pony Express about his SMU official visit. “Love the city. Love the people. Love the coaches.”

SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee and defensive coordinator Maurice Crum, Jr. kept the press up for the 6-0, 215-pounder.

“Definitely Mo Crum and Lashlee, I love those guys,” Williams said. “Just talking to them all the time and having an evening with them and it was just fun the whole weekend.”

SMU has long recruited Williams, who saw the family aspect up close this weekend.

“I’Zayah Young and Hudson (Woods). They were two cool guys, we went out to Top Golf and had a good time out there,” Williams said. “That was definitely one of the biggest things when it came down to it was the family part. I wasn’t really worried about the play style or anything. Just having that connection with the players and the coaches was the biggest thing for me.”

SMU commits Amari Vickerson and Malachi Zeigler helped make his weekend complete and add additional future Mustangs into the fold.

“Definitely. Amari and Malachi definitely helped me a lot. Just making that decision was a big weight off my shoulders. Last night we had Isaiah Udom commit. It was also fun and it was pretty big, too.”

According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting media companies, Williams ranks as the No. 474 overall prospect in the country, No. 40 linebacker in the nation and the 63rd-ranked prospect in Texas.
