Cameron Upshaw didn’t spend long off the South Carolina football commitment list.
The Perry (Fla.) Taylor County class of 2023 three-star safety decommitted from the Gamecocks on Sunday but rejoined the South Carolina class on Tuesday night.
Upshaw shared the news with the popular @Usctalk Twitter account and has re-added the @GamecockFB tag on his Instagram bio.
Gamecock Central also confirmed with a source that Upshaw is indeed back on the Gamecocks’ internal commit list.
The On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — has Upshaw as the No. 972 overall prospect and No. 86 safety in the 2023 cycle.
Upshaw originally chose South Carolina during his official visit in June over offers from Florida State, Maryland, Arkansas and Penn State, among others.
“Just the love the coaches showed,” he told GC at the time. “They showed my family crazy love. That’s really a big part of the whole visit. They showed my family crazy love, and they loved it. That was good,” he told Gamecock Central.
“I really got to meet coach (Shane) Beamer and sit down and talk with him. That was good. I enjoyed that. Last time I came, the coaches weren’t here so it was just me by myself. I didn’t get to feel the vibe of the place.”
His relationship with defensive backs coach Torrian Gray also has played an important role in his recruitment.
“Coach Gray, that’s my boy. We talk almost every other day. So it was good to be around him, be around him and see where his head’s at as far as recruiting me,” Upshaw said in June. “Then where he sees the program going and what he wants to do with the DBs.”
He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $9.3k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
