South Carolina's latest bowl projections after another blowout win
South Carolina football won another SEC contest in runaway fashion on Saturday night. The Gamecocks whipped the 10th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies in the second half to pull off the 44-20 victory. Last week, some outlets were undecided on whether or not Carolina would be going bowling this winter. However, after the big win over the Aggies, that has changed.

Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura of ESPN shared the same opinion on the Gamecocks this week. The coworkers both projected South Carolina to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Texas Bowl. USC has never played in the Texas Bowl, but they did win the 1995 Meineke Carquest Bowl (Meineke sponsored a later iteration of the Texas Bowl). The Gamecocks have never played the Red Raiders.
CBS’ Jerry Palm, after several weeks of back-and-forth with his view of the Gamecocks’ bowl chances, now has South Carolina firmly in the bowl picture. According to Palm, a first-ever trip to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Bowl is in the cards. He projected Shane Beamer’s team to face off with Coach Prime Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. The ‘Cocks and Buffs have never met on the gridiron.
The Music City Bowl is calling according to Athlon Sports’ Steve Lassan. A trip to Nashville would be South Carolina’s first in the Music City Bowl. Lassan believes the Gamecocks will match up with the Illinois Fighting Illini in the December bowl game. The two teams have never played against each other.

The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy predicted that South Carolina will play in a very familiar bowl game. According to the veteran sportswriter, the Gamecocks will travel to Tampa, Florida (again) for the Reliaquest Bowl. Formerly known as the Outback Bowl, USC is 4-1 in the game since 2000 with a pair of wins over Ohio State and two more over Michigan. Unfortunately, the one loss came against Iowa, and that is the opponent McMurphy believes Carolina will play. After the 2008 season, the Gamecocks lost to the Hawkeyes in the only meeting ever between the two programs.

Currently, though, South Carolina football has just five wins on the season. The Gamecocks still have a matchup with the FCS Wofford Terriers remaining on the schedule, so bowl eligibility is all but a formality. However, there is much more to play for during the team’s final four games. Next up is a matchup with 24th-ranked Vanderbilt in Nashville. The Gamecocks and Commodores will play at 4:15 p.m. on the SEC Network and ESPN app.
