The start of the college football season is 100 days away and that means early betting lines are starting to drop, including for South Carolina football’s Sept. 3rd opener against Georgia State.

The Gamecocks are 11-point favorites over the Panthers, according to sportsbetting.ag. The book has not set an over/under for the matchup, which will be at Williams-Brice Stadium.

That game is actually 107 days away with a “Week 0” slate of games scheduled the week before on Aug. 27.

Georgia State is led by Camden, S.C. native and former South Carolina offensive line coach and interim head coach Shawn Elliott, who is 30-30 in six seasons in Atlanta.

The Panthers have put together three straight winning seasons and three straight bowl trips under Elliott.

In Year 1 of the Shane Beamer era last season, South Carolina went 7-6, including wins over Florida, Auburn and North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Georgia opened as a 16.5-point favorite over Oregon, one of the marquee matchups of Week 1.

Arkansas, South Carolina’s Week 2 opponent, is listed as a 7.5-point favorite over 2021-2022 College Football Playoff selection Cincinnati.

Ohio State is listed as a 15.5-point favorite over Notre Dame in new Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman’s debut.

The Brian Kelly era at LSU will begin in the Superdome on Sept. 4 with the Tigers a 3.5-point favorite over Florida State.

Gamecocks adds NFL veteran to staff

FROM USC MEDIA RELATIONS

South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer has added veteran football coach Freddie Kitchens to his 2022 staff as a Senior Football Analyst, it was announced today.

Kitchens comes to Columbia after having worked in the National Football League since 2006, including a stint as the Cleveland Browns’ head coach in 2019.

Most recently, he worked for the New York Giants where he served as the tight ends coach in 2020 and as a senior offensive assistant and interim offensive coordinator in 2021 under head coach Joe Judge.

“I worked with Freddie Kitchens previously at Mississippi State and have known him for close to 20 years,” said Coach Beamer. “He’s a fantastic coach with head coaching experience and coordinator experience. He’s a long-time NFL coach who will be a great asset and resource for our program and will help us in so many ways.”
