Gamecock Central and Garnet Trust recently caught up with South Carolina football running back Christian Beal-Smith for an exclusive Garnet Trust interview about Beal-Smith’s first five or so months in Columbia.

In addition to the usual GT interview topics, we thought it might be fun to let Gamecock fans get to know Beal-Smith a little bit more off the field as well.

In this excerpt from his full interview (you can view the rest of the interview by clicking here) we spoke to the Wake Forest transfer about what he does in his free time, his meal choices when he’s trying to eat healthy or when he’s having a cheat meal, and what it’s been like to live in Columbia for the first time in his life.

More on Christian Beal-Smith

Running back Christian Beal-Smith arrived with South Carolina football in January after a full and productive career at Wake Forest where he was the Deamon Deacons’ leading rusher for the last two seasons.

The 5-foot-10, 201-pound Beal-Smith joins the South Carolina program looking to make an immediate impact in a backfield that lost Kevin Harris and ZaQuandre White from last year’s squad.

Beal-Smith, who was ranked by On3 as the No. 111 overall prospect and No. 11 running back in the portal, joins the South Carolina football program with 1,871 career rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 43 games over the past four seasons, including 22 starts.

Last season, he led the Deamon Deacons with 604 yards and seven touchdowns on 131 carries. The prior year, he rushed for 732 yards and five touchdowns en route to being named Third Team All-ACC by Phil Steele.

The Winston Salem, N.C. native recently discussed a number of other topics in his interview with Garnet Trust.

“I was talking to my mom the other day and I said I wanted to live in Columbia when I got older,” Beal-Smith said. “It’s just, everything is here. I don’t need to go anywhere. If I was in Winston, I would have to go home and get my mom’s food just because I didn’t feel like eating anything out. There’s just so many variety of places here I can go to, I just can’t go to all of them. Every time I see a new restaurant, I put it in my notes and I want to go visit.”
