The accolades keep rolling in for the South Carolina football team this week. Following the Gamecocks’ 44-20 win over Texas A&M in Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, several players (and head coach Shane Beamer) have received individual recognition at the conference and national levels.

On Tuesday, quarterback LaNorris Sellers added his name to that list as the redshirt freshman was named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week.

Sellers was terrific against the Aggies, logging 350 yards, three total touchdowns, and zero turnovers in the win.

From the South Carolina Athletics press release:

South Carolina redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers has been named the Davey O’Brien National Co-Quarterbacks of the Week for Week 10, it was announced today. Sellers shares the award with Ole Miss senior Jaxson Dart.

Sellers amassed 350 yards of total offense and accounted for three touchdowns in a 44-20 upset victory over No. 10 Texas A&M on Saturday night. Through the air, Sellers passed for a career-high 244 yards and two scores, while on the ground he carried 15 times for a career-best 106 yards (7.1 per carry) and a touchdown.

South Carolina’s 44 points were 20 more than any other team had scored against the Aggies this season and were 28 higher than their average points allowed. Under Sellers, the Gamecocks racked up 530 yards of total offense, nearly 200 over the Aggies’ season average (338). For his efforts, Sellers was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

Dart enjoyed a record-setting performance in leading Ole Miss to a commanding 63-31 victory over Arkansas. He completed 25 of 31 passes (80.6 percent) for 515 yards and six touchdowns against no interceptions, and also added 47 yards rushing on 10 carries. It is Dart’s second career National Quarterback of the Week accolade (Oct. 3, 2023).

On Saturday, Dart set Ole Miss single-game records for total offense (562) and passing yards (515) and equaled the school record for passing touchdowns (6). Dart’s total yardage ranks fourth in SEC history, while his passing yards rank as the sixth-most ever against an SEC defense. Dart was also named Associated Press National Player of the Week and SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
