On Tuesday, a former South Carolina tight end found a new NFL home. Nick Muse, who won a Super Bowl last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, has signed on with another Super Bowl contender. The Los Angeles Rams announced that Muse would be joining the organization’s practice squad.

With the Rams, Muse will join an organization that features tight ends heavily. Four players, including veteran Tyler Higbee, have caught seven touchdown passes this season at the position. For now, though, Muse will be one of two tight ends on the Rams’ practice squad, joining Mark Redman.

Before joining the Rams, Muse spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, and Arizona Cardinals. He technically had multiple stints with both the Vikings and the Eagles.

Following the 2018 campaign, Muse transferred to South Carolina after two seasons at William and Mary. During three seasons in garnet and black, he registered over 800 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Had he not torn his ACL in 2019, those numbers would have been even better.

Muse earned some All-SEC honors in the Covid-shortened 2020 season. That year, coming off the ACL tear and playing just 10 total games, he had 425 yards receiving. His 131 yards against Georgia is a top-five all-time single-game tight end performance at USC.

Only Josh Simon (2024), Jaheim Bell (2021), Hayden Hurst (2016, 2017), Jared Cook (2008), Danny Smith (1987), and Clyde Bennett (1952) have matched Muse’s 2020 numbers as South Carolina’s tight end. Adding to that exclusivity, Bell, Cook, Smith, and Bennett also played other positions for the Gamecocks en route to their big years.

Following his Carolina career, Muse earned selection in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
