The recruiting process is slowly winding down for South Carolina football target and four-star quarterback Dylan Lonergan.

The Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood standout named a Top 5 last month of AlabamaFloridaOhio State, South Carolina and Stanford and is now working through the final stages of the process.

South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer has been personally recruiting the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder along with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Marcus Satterfield.

“A lot of it comes down to Coach Beamer and how just personable he is,” Lonergan told Gamecock Central’s Kendall Smith in a Zoom interview Sunday. “Because I definitely talk to him more than any other head coach in the country for sure. And other than that, is really just the fan base is really incredible too.”

Lonergan, who has been on at least five visits to South Carolina, was most recently in Columbia for the Gamecocks’ Garnet and Black spring game, when he also took in part of the baseball team’s win over Ole Miss.

As has been the case throughout the process, it was another successful trip.

“I always love it when I go up there,” Lonergan said. “The atmosphere for a spring game was crazy and every game that I’ve been to was absolutely crazy. So I always love my time up there.”

Lonergan will get his next and most extensive look at South Carolina on June 10 when he takes his official visit to the school.

“Absolutely, I can’t wait and the plan is kind of just meet the guys they’re recruiting and hopefully get some kids that might be in my class with me and just kind of build a better relationship with coaches,” he said.

Lonergan also has official visits set to Alabama (6/3) and Stanford (6/24).

Then it will be time for a decision.

“Right now I’m thinking early July,” he said.

The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies – ranks Lonergan as the No. 9 quarterback, No. 82 overall prospect and No. 5 state of Georgia prospect in the 2023 class.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) — which uses machine learning, expert predictions, social sentiment, visits, and historical trends to predict the percentages a recruit will choose a particular school — gives South Carolina a 64 percent chance to land Lonergan with Stanford checking in second with a 15.9 percent chance.
