Washington (DC) Archbishop Carroll five-star ATH Nyckoles Harbor announced a commitment to South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon, creating the final exclamation point on the Gamecocks’ 2023 recruiting class.

Gamecock Central was on hand for the announcement and spoke to Harbor after his commitment.

Harbor’s commitment is perhaps the biggest win to date for Shane Beamer, who seems to be coming up with one win after another on the recruiting trail as of late.

“Coach Beamer was one of the first few to ever look at me when I was a freshman,” Harbor told Gamecock Central in August of last year. “When he got the head coaching job at South Carolina (he) offered me to get me down to the school and just to show me great love when I was a three or four star. He’s still there, still showing the same recruitment, but just going even harder now since we’re getting closer to when I’m going to commit.”

But this was a team effort from the start.

Beamer as well as South Carolina assistants Sterling Lucas and Jody Wright and head track and field coach Curtis Frye, as well as many others on the Gamecocks’ side, contributed to Carolina landing Harbor.

“It’s definitely grown a lot, tremendously, over the last couple months,” Harbor said last August of his relationships with the Gamecock football staff. “I didn’t know Coach Wright until a couple months ago, but the relationship we’ve built over that time is getting stronger. Coach Lucas, that’s my guy. With him, the relationship’s always been strong and it’s just getting stronger from now on.”

Beamer and the Gamecocks find themselves on a tear unlike many previously seen in Columbia as they are off to one of the best starts in school history for the 2024 recruiting cycle while simultaneously capping off their 2023 class with one of the biggest signings in school history.

The Washington (DC) Archbishop Carroll standout is the No. 21 overall prospect and No. 1 athlete in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Washington D.C.

Harbor whittled his recruitment down to those final five schools from over 70 scholarship offers.

Gamecock Central will have more soon from on the ground in Washington including an in-depth analysis of the decision and Harbor’s reasons for choosing the Gamecocks.
