What Shane Beamer said after South Carolina's win over No. 8 Clemson

After South Carolina secured one of the biggest wins in recent program history on last Saturday, the Gamecocks turned around and did it again this weekend by beating No. 8 Clemson 31-30.

With the win, the Gamecocks snap and seven game losing streak to Clemson and improve to 8-4 (4-4 in the SEC). 

Here are some the highlights from Beamer’s post game press conference:

-“First of all best of luck to coach Sweeney and and his team next week in Charlotte. I mean that is a championship level team that we just beat. I have tons of respect for him and what he’s about.”

-More from Beamer on the post game exchange with Sweeney: “I told him in that handshake we played our ever living you know what off because of we knew what it would take to beat these guys.”

-“I know how important this game was to so many people in this state. I’m just so happy for our fans. I’m so happy for our seniors, our players,”

-Beamer said the win was “a total team effort”

-“I hope you all understand like it is special, what we got in that locker room…Nobody flinched. And you know, we were a confident team coming in here today and we got better as the game changed”

-Beamer said Spencer Rattler is a fantastic quarterback who played very well: “I told him we’re gonna win this game in the second half because of you”

-“He’s a hell of a quarterback, is a great kid and what a leader he is for us”

-Beamer on the first interception Rattler threw that resulted in a pick six:

-“Trotter made a great play, on the interception…as crappy as it was…we didn’t flinch and I told him I right then, you’re a heck of a player and we’re gonna win this game in the second half because of you.”

-Beamer said he apologized to Clayton White for the fact that the offense couldn’t put the game away multiple times,

-Added that Kai Kroeger and all of special teams helped secure the win and did a great job

-Marcellas Dial got a game ball, lauded him for how well he played.

-Dial is an upstate native (Woodruff, S.C.) so it was special that he played well and helped get the win.

-“He was out there on an island by himself a lot today and he just kept responding. So just so happy for him.”

-Beamer joked he aged 60 years during the game

-Said he was grateful walking off the field when the clock hit zero and that there were a lot of emotions

-Beamer on Josh Vann’s injury:

-“He’s okay. It was a knee injury, obviously looked pretty ugly. It’s not his ACL so we’ll see.”

-Beamer on the mental toughness and narrative change in the program after the win:

-“We were the feel-good story in college football last week, but nobody thought we were good enough to win this game…We were the team that just kind of caught lightning in a Bottle last week and ‘no way they can come back and do it again.’”

-“You have a chance these next two weeks to completely change everything with this program, the entire trajectory of this program and the outside narrative – and damn if they didn’t…When we took care of business last week, it wasn’t just ‘okay, we did it, great,’ – no, we planned on doing it two in a row and we did.”

-Joked that they’ve essentially played in their own College Football Playoff the last two weeks, said if the committee needed any information about Tennessee or Clemson to let him know.

-Said the win was huge for the seniors

-“The all came back because they said they had higher goals than just winning six in the regular season and they’ve won eight they got a chance to win nine.”

-More from Beamer on the post game exchange with Dabo Sweeney:

-“All class. He’s fantastic. He basically just said ‘great game happy for you.’ And I told him, he got our very best because they force you to give your very best. They they know how to win football games.”

-Beamer on what the win means for Satterfield and more on him:

-“Just a little fighter he is and he’ll be the first to tell you that we didn’t coach well enough in the Florida game, we didn’t coach well enough in the Missouri game…we knew what the issues were…Satt did a great job.”

-Beamer on Nate Adkins’ performance: his role continues to increase

-Last week you saw him come in get some pass protection snaps in the backfield because of lack of depth.

-Said he got a game ball for the his spectacular one handed catch and he’s a “great player” and a “Swiss Army knife”

-Beamer on Rattler’s performance the last few weeks:

-Told him he could cement his legacy over the last few weeks of the season

-“You wanna talk about Satt taking a lot of crap, (Rattler) has taken a lot of crap and just comes to work everyday and blocks out the noise…there’s no other quarterback I’d rather have.”

-“Hoping he can come back next year and do it again”
