One day after South Carolina suffered a 36-33 loss to LSU, head coach Shane Beamer spoke with the media during his Sunday teleconference. Here’s what he had to say.

— Really disappointing day yesterday. After watching the tape, even more disappointed. LSU fought and did a fantastic job. Lot of missed opportunities and self-inflicted wounds. Got a lot of players that are hurting today.

— Everyone is invested and ready to get better. He didn’t get a lot of sleep. Can’t remember ever having two defensive touchdowns called back for penalties and a blocked punt and not winning the game.

— They’ve shown they have a really football team that can go toe to toe with anybody. Just need to coach and play smarter.

— Offensive standouts: Jared Brown, Rocket Sanders, offensive line in general. Gave up too many sacks but wasn’t all on the OL. Need to get rid of the football.

— Defensive standouts: OD Fortune, DQ Smith, Boogie Huntley.

— Special teams standouts: Mo Brown, King Ford, Colin Bryant.

— The penalty calls are something he thinks about. Heard some fans yelling that SC won the game and it was stolen from them. Not going to seek comfort in that but they didn’t do enough well to win the game. The players can see some of the calls that they didn’t get or went against them. They aren’t blind. But the officials didn’t cause them to jump offsides twice or miss tackles, etc. They didn’t cause false starts or fumble four times.

— Called the SEC head of officials right after recording his show with Todd Ellis. Ray Tanner has had conversations with the league office as well. Wants clarification on some of the things that happened.

— They’ve sent in quite a few plays to the SEC today. It’s to get a better explanation or answer any question he has. There’s some interesting things he saw. Wants a clarification on the celebration rule and taunting. Thought there were two clear instances of taunting on the last play of the game after the missed field goal.

— Alex Herrera had a great kick on the 49-yard attempt at the end of the game. He pulled it a little bit, though.

— Had more missed tackles than the other games.

— Wasn’t necessarily the plan to run the ball a ton in the second half. Felt good about the ability to run the ball in the second half. Any time you have a 75-yard run by Sellers and nice explosive runs by Rocket, it’s beneficial. Just needed to continue to move the ball. It’s not ideal to lose Sellers but they didn’t want to be conservative at all.

— Sellers is doing okay. Yesterday was a physical game. Will have more updates on any injuries on Tuesday since there’s no required injury report this upcoming week for a non-conference game.

— Robby Ashford did a good job and had a lot of confidence. He was poised and competitive. He’ll continue to get better to have gone through that experience.

— Felt Rocket was due for a big game. He had a good week of practice like he always has. Emphasized this week with him that he’s big and hard to tackle. Wanted him to be physical and get down him and break arm tackles. He showed that. Need to continue to develop the RB room around him. Don’t want to wear him down. Need to have some other guys come along.

— Weren’t good enough on third downs this week or last week against Kentucky. Starts with keeping yourself out of longer yardage situations. When they get in those situations, though, they need to execute.

— Had family at his house last night after getting home. Immediately recorded the game, went outside and mainly watched the fourth quarter. It’s like every game win or lose. Makes notes, good and bad. The emotions of the game are tough. Need to execute and do their job. Don’t need to do too much. Their good is plenty good enough.
