MORE: South Carolina bowl projections: Week 14

By Michael Sauls

South Carolina football snapped a seven-game losing streak to in-state rival Clemson on Saturday.

The 31-30 win over the No. 8 Tigers was the second straight win over a top-10 team for the Gamecocks.

Now that the regular season is complete, the No. 20 Gamecocks will wait to see if they are ranked by the College Football Playoff Committee Tuesday – then turn their attention to Dec. 5 when they learn their bowl destination and opponent.

The newest bowl projections have been released over the last few days and the ReliaQuest Bowl and Gator Bowl are once again the overwhelming favorites this week.

The ReliaQuest Bowl was called the Outback Bowl until this year, if South Carolina is picked for that game it would be the first time they played in it since 2018.

The Gamecocks have not played in the Gator Bowl since 1987. South Carolina is 0-4 in program history in the Gator Bowl.

Your Christmas travel plans should be safe with this slate of projections, but any New Year plans may be slightly affected.

Here’s what this week’s bowl projections look like:

South Carolina got to bowl eligibility with wins in the non-conference against Georgia State, Charlotte, South Carolina State and Clemson. The Gamecocks also have four league wins currently against Kentucky, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Tennessee.

This is South Carolina’s fifth bowl game in the last eight seasons and first time going to consecutive bowls since playing in three straight from 2016 to 2018.

The Gamecocks will not play in the SEC Championship and will take the next few weeks to practice and get healthy before their bowl game.

With star players like MarShawn Lloyd and Christian Beal-Smith still not fully healthy, multiple de facto bye weeks will be very useful for South Carolina.

You can watch this weeks CFP rankings show on ESPN Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. All non-CFP bowl game matchups will be announced on Dec. 4 after the conclusion of all conference championship games.
