What quarterback Joey Aguilar said after No. 14 Tennessee’s 33-27 loss to No. 17 Oklahoma Saturday night at Neyland Stadium, after he threw for 393 yards and three touchdowns and had three turnovers on the night:

Oklahoma’s defense, what the Sooners did pre-snap to confuse Tennessee’s offense

“Yeah, they were trying to disguise coverage and they did a good job on that. And offensively, I feel like we did good, but obviously not good enough. So got to go back to the drawing board.”

How different Oklahoma’s defense was compared to others Tennessee has faced, what led to the turnovers

“I wouldn’t say crazy different. They like to get out after quarterbacks so they had a little more pressures. But other than that, they’re just rolling to coverages and attacking the quarterback.”

How much the momentum changed when Oklahoma forced the fumble in the first quarter and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown

“I mean, a turnover is always a big momentum change. We were on a roll and they made a good play, so they took momentum. But a turnover always turns over the momentum. So I would say it is what it is, you know?”

What he saw on the two Oklahoma interceptions in the first half

“The one before halftime, just kind of forced it downfield, trying to stay in the pocket and make a throw while getting hit. Kind of just sailed it. And then the first one, they did a good job disguising the coverage right there. Rolled down, went into cover one, safety rolled over to the field. They got me on that one. Got me on the first one. The second one, just trying to stay in, make a pass while getting hit, kind of just sailed the ball.”

Why Tennessee’s run game struggled against Oklahoma

“I would probably just say just all the pressures that they bring. They try to twist the D-line a lot and just kind of confuse everybody all around. So that’s pretty much it.”

If Oklahoma’s defense did anything pre-snap that Tennessee wasn’t expecting

“No, they didn’t do anything I didn’t expect. We prepared for everything, but they just did a great job as they do. Attacking the quarterback, bringing pressure trying to make us make quick reads.”

How much tougher losses are when it comes after Tennessee made the mistakes that changed the game

“A lot, especially on my part. Turn the ball over three times, strip sack and then two interceptions. But those mistakes, of just reading the defense and just getting to the next read for me personally obviously hurts a lot, to put my team in a better position to put points up. The defense gave us turnovers and offensively we didn’t execute on those. So to go back and see those mistakes that I could clean up just makes it hard and frustrating. But you just got to watch it and flush it.”

His message to his Tennessee teammates after the third loss of the season, playoffs hopes being dashed

“Just keep fighting. We’re blessed to have three more games, and you just got to take it week by week. College football is crazy, but our next focus is our next opponent.”
