The Volquest stock report: Tennessee is College Football Playoff bound
Tennessee is 10-2 and has punched their ticket to the college football playoff with the 36-23 wi over Vanderbilt. As Josh Heupel and Vols await to see where they are this week in the playoff rankings we look at who’s up, who’s down, and what’s flat in the weekly Volquest Stock Report.
Stock up:
Nico Iamaleava —Dylan Sampson was and has been terrific all year, but Saturday was as comfortable and in control as we have seen Iamaleava this season. Vanderbilt could not generate any pass rush and it allowed Iamaleava to get really comfortable. The redshirt freshman had one bad throw, but his accuracy was on point. His patience and touch on the touchdown throw to Miles Kitselman was a thing of beauty. Since halftime against Alabama, Iamaleava has 12 touchdowns and one interception.— Brent Hubbs
Jermod McCoy — It’s easy to say that Sampson has been the MVP of Tennessee’s team and it sure will not be incorrect but for my liking what Jermod McCoy has done this year has been transformative for the secondary. He got another interception on Saturday and looked fantastic once again. — Austin Price
Stock down:
Penalties —Tennessee has been a highly penalized team since Heupel arrived, but if they don’t get them somewhat under control it will cost this team in the playoffs. You can’t expect to be a good deal at home or away if you have double digit penalties and over 100 yards. It just has to be better.— Brent Hubbs

Kickoff coverage — Just boot it through the end zone! Tennessee gave up a touchdown and then another really good return by Vanderbilt on Saturday, which can’t happen when they get to the college football playoff. I don’t know if that was a designed kick, but it sure felt that way on the opening kick off just how it was hit at a certain trajectory. — Austin Price
Stock stagnant:
Will they host or travel—Every eye will be glue to the playoff rankings later tonight to see where Ohio State is in positioned in this week’s rankings after their terrible home loss to Michigan. Will they be ahead or behind the Vols? How much help does Tennessee need Saturday in the conference championship games? It’s the unknown right now.. — Brent Hubbs
Injuries — Tennessee was obviously pretty banged up exiting the field on Saturday, and the extent of some of those injuries are not known at this time which makes certain players availability for the CFP Way more up in the air than anybody would like. — Austin Price
