Texas A&M gets some great news Monday afternoon as 2024 four-star Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove quarterback Anthony (AJ) Maddox Jr. has committed to the Aggies.

It was just yesterday that Maddox released a top three of Texas A&M, Alabama, and Penn State. His commitment marks the fourth pledge in the Aggies 2024 class.

Maddox earned an offer from Texas A&M just earlier this week on January 30 after a great conversation with new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. Although the offer came this week, Maddox previously visited College Station back in November, which sparked his initial interest in Texas A&M.

Maddox is the son of former NFL defensive lineman Anthony Maddox, who played four seasons in the NFL with the Jaguars and Texans. Maddox’s younger brother, Andrew, is one of the top defensive lineman in the class of 2025. He already holds an offer from Texas A&M.

Maddox joins a top-20 rated class with four-star Longview (Texas) Pine Tree defensive lineman Dealyn Evans, four-star Katy (Texas) Tompkins offensive lineman Ashton Funk, and four-star Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton wide receiver Debron Gatling.

On3 is higher on Maddox than most

On3 rates Maddox higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is a four-star recruit, the No. 274 overall prospect, No. 19 quarterback and No. 6 player in Mississippi.

Maddox is the No. 556 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 11 player in Mississippi.

At 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, Maddox holds 11 total offers.

Following the Aggies offer, Texas A&M rose to become the leader for Maddox in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. After an On3 Prediction from myself earlier this week, the odds for the Aggies to land Maddox climbed to 99%.

RPM was released to the public in December 2021. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college. It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

Maddox currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $7.8K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
