In the midst of a busy recruiting visit weekend for Texas A&M, one of the more under-the-radar names to make the trip to College Station was 2026 Spring (Tex.) Grand Oaks quarterback Grant Smith. Well his name won’t be under-the-radar much longer as Texas A&M became the first school to offer the freshman signal caller while on the visit.

The young Smith, who split starting reps with an older player at Grand Oaks has a live arm and has been a guy offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino has had his eye on since he arrived at Texas A&M in the winter.

The two sides has exchanged communication prior but this first visit was what sealed the deal on the offer being extended.

As I said before, Smith was in limited action but still in six games played, he completed 27 passes for 513 passing yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 19 yards per completion.

I expect for this youngster to pick up some more popularity and attention as the 7v7 season continues along with spring ball and regional camps on the horizon. And with the Aggies offer now in hand, more programs will be monitoring Smith.

I first came across in January while at a 7v7 tournament, where he competes for Texas Fury. For Fury, Smith splits reps with four-star Wisconsin commit Mabrey Mettauer. So, he does not play every game, but when he does play, it is very easy to see the talent and potential. The Texas Fury coaches have raved about Smith being “next up” and a name everyone should get used to in the state.

The 2026 board will be an intriguing for Aggies with Smith added

The On3 database reports Texas A&M has offered 15 quarterback prospects in the class of 2026 to date. While that is a lot of youngsters, it is a prospect like the in-stater Grant Smith that will likely receive lots of love over the next several cycles.

There is quite some time for Grant and the rest of the 2026 class to come into focus, but holding the offer now allows for Grant to build those relationships in College Station and know he is a priority target for the future.

It will be fun to see the 6-foot-2, 180 pound freshman develop and grow. I believe be is just scratching the surface now and will have plenty of other skills and abilities down the road.
