In the 2023 NFL Draft, there is a trio of recently former Aggies hoping to hear their name called.

In one of the newest NFL mock drafts to hit the internet, NFL Mocks, a Fansided publication, mocked the Dallas Cowboys select Texas A&M running back Devon Achane with the 91st selection, a the third round pick.

Achane has been routinely mocked and projected to go in the third round, however he might find his way into the second round after his NFL Combine performance. Achane was the fastest running back to workout at the combine, running a 4.32-second time.

What Fansided said about the pick for Achane to the Cowboys

Devon Achane has just about everything that you look for in an NFL running back, except size. He is just 5-foot-8 and 188 pounds, but he is an outstanding runner and would fill a potentially huge need for the Cowboys.

The biggest thing that stands out about Achane is his speed and burst. When he hits the open field, he is GONE. This is clear on tape and was backed up by the fastest 40-yard dash time by any running back at the Combine.

When you watch Achane, he has all the attributes. He has great vision, quick acceleration through the hole, shiftiness in the open field, and blazing speed to finish the play. He is also very effective in the passing game as a receiver (and as a blocker).

The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on standout back Tony Pollard, but if they do not plan on reaching a long-term deal with the dynamic running back, Achane would be the perfect replacement.

A workhorse for Texas A&M

Achane appeared in 30 total games in his three seasons in College Station. At the running back position, Achane accumulated 2,376 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 369 carries. He averaged 6.4 yards per rush in his career and 79.2 yards per game. His junior season, he averaged 110.2 rushing yards per game.

Achane also had 65 receptions for 554 yards and five touchdowns through the passing game. As a return specialist on kickoffs, he returned 20 kicks for 613 total yards with two touchdowns. Achane has two career returns of 95+ yards.

In 2022, his junior season, Achane reached the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the first time. In 10 games played, he finished with 1,102 rushing yards with eight touchdowns.

Achane, a former four-star prospect, was ranked as the No. 16 running back and No. 136 overall prospect in the nation in class of 2020.
