2023 El Campo (Tex.) High five-star running back Rueben Owens put on a show in just one half of action in a dominant 62-17 win over Alvin (Tex.) Iowa Colony on Friday night.

Owens, who’s committed to Louisville, but remains a priority target for Texas A&M, rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries in the win.

On the season, Owens is now well over 1,500 yards on the year with over 20 touchdowns through just eight games. He’s now six touchdowns away from 100 career touchdowns and just 650 yards from 7,000 career rushing yards.

Owens made a stunning commitment to Louisville over the summer after taking an official visit, siding with the Cardinals over Texas, TCU, Georgia and Texas A&M, among others. Jimbo Fisher has remained in daily contact with the five-star, looking to keep the elite running back in the state.

Over the years, Owens has visited Texas A&M more than any other program, but has yet to visit this season. With a stretch of home games to close the season, the Aggies will look the get the five-star on campus at least once before Signing Day, and likely won’t give up on trying to flip him until the end.

Scouting Summary for Owens

“The most productive rusher in the 2023 cycle. Dominates mid-level competition, rushing for nearly 3,000 yards and 46 touchdowns as a junior. Extremely efficient, rushing for over 12 yards per carry. Pairs very good long-speed with vision and contact balance. Has run sub-11.0 second marks in the 100 meters and carries that speed over to the field. Regularly pulls away from the competition. Bounces off tackles at the second level. Spins out of arm tackles. Does not give up on runs.

“Has also shown advanced ball skills as a pass catcher in the 7-on-7 setting. Does not appear to have a big frame at 5-foot-11 and under 200 pounds. Will need to add mass to his lower body to optimize leg drive and durability. Can improve his lateral agility as he gears down to cut at times. Older for the class, turning 19 years old in the middle of his senior season.” – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

Owens ranks as the No. 27 prospect and the No. 1 running back in the country per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The five-star has an On3 NIL Valuation of $243K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
