For On3’s No. 2 running back in the Class of 2024, Taylor Tatum, coming back to Austin after his offer was going to happen. And after seeing Steve Sarkisian, running backs coach Tashard Choice, and Texas baseball coach David Pierce, a return trip looks more than likely.
Tatum has surged up the UT recruiting big board, and he soaked in the atmosphere at UT’s Junior Day on Saturday.
“It was great to meet coach Choice and coach Sark on a personal level,” Tatum said. “Both have my number and been hitting me up. But just seeing them face-to-face and eye-to-eye, and seeing their philosophies and how they want Texas to be, it gave me a different outlook on Texas.”
“Coach Choice told me before that he wants to be the best at everything, so to be the best, you have to get the best,” Tatum explained. “I fully respect that. I got to meet up with Jerrick, No. 1 running back in the nation. He’s my boy now. It was definitely cool. It also made it clear wherever we go, he’ll always be there for us.”
Texas is looking at taking two ball-carriers in the 2024 cycle and told the recruits in the position room that all spots were open.
Tatum’s exploits on the gridiron include breaking Longview’s single-season touchdown mark (31). He runs the first leg on the Lobos 4×100 state-qualifying 4×100 relay, and is a standout baseball prospect.
“It was so good meeting coach Pierce,” said Tatum. “Getting to see a little of the baseball facilities was cool. I didn’t know coach Sark played baseball. He’s a big baseball guy. Just knowing if I played baseball too, it would be good with him.”
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound On3 four-star holds 28 offers including Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, and USC. He recently tripped to Penn State and will be at Michigan this weekend.
Tatum is the No. 79 overall prospect and No. 5 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 12 player in Texas.
Tatum currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $57K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
