Before Texas and Georgia battle in Athens and prior to Alabama’s game with Oklahoma, Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning and Crimson Tide signal-caller Ty Simpson will likely get in touch.

Both said this week that it’s a regular occurrence, but both have plenty to talk about ahead of Saturday. Manning and the Longhorns head to Athens to face Georgia while Simpson and the Crimson Tide host the Sooners in Tuscaloosa.

“Yeah, I’m sure we’ll talk,” Manning said Monday. “He’s asked me some questions about teams we’ve played. It’s good having him in my corner.”

Simpson, who was a counselor at the 2025 Manning Passing Academy in Thibodeaux, La., joked about his exchanges with Manning on Tuesday.

“Arch has got a loud mouth, huh?” Simpson asked with a smile.

Undoubtedly, the two have had a lot to talk about and have even more to discuss this week. Simpson faced the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Georgia Bulldogs earlier this year, leading Alabama to decisive wins in each. He offered information to Manning on Vandy and Georgia in exchange for some insight on Oklahoma from the Texas side of things.

They’ll have those talks as part of larger conversations.

“That’s my guy,” Simpson said Tuesday. “We talk weekly not just about ball, but about how each other are doing. He’s a really good friend of mine. I know he played (Vanderbilt), and we had talked before. Of course the Red River Rivalry, and it was a good game. I asked him a couple of questions and he asked me a couple of questions about Vanderbilt and Georgia.”

Finer points of playing the quarterback position against those two teams were the main focus during their talks.

“Quarterback etiquette and talking to one another about what’d you see, what’d you do here, plays, fronts in general,” Simpson said. “Stuff that we talk about not just as friends but as quarterbacks as well.”

Against the Sooners, Manning was an efficient 21-for-27 for 166 yards and a rushing touchdown in a Red River Shootout victory. He added 34 yards on the ground, including a late scamper that essentially sealed the win and had Manning waving goodbye to the Oklahoma side of the Cotton Bowl. Versus Vanderbilt, Manning was 25-for-33 for 328 yards and three touchdowns in Texas’ 34-31 win.

During Alabama’s win at Georgia, Simpson was 24-for-38 for 276 yards with two touchdowns plus a rushing touchdown. Versus Vanderbilt, he was 23-for-31 for 340 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in a 30-14 victory.

Both Simpson and Manning have tall tasks ahead of them this Saturday against stellar defenses. The exchange of some information between the two Southeastern Conference quarterbacks is one small part of prep both hope provides an edge on Saturday.
