Texas split a midweek series with the Texas State Bobcats last week, winning in San Marcos and dropping the return game in Austin. Then, despite a treacherous weekend for the Longhorn bullpen, Texas emerged from Waco with a series win over the Bears thanks to a 7-6 Sunday victory. David Pierce’s club won game one on Friday, surrendered a four-run ninth-inning lead on Saturday, then held on in the game three matchup for the series win.

Texas (26-12) has won three of four Big 12 series this season and sits in first place in the conference with an 8-4 record, ahead of second-place Kansas State as a result of win percentage. Following the 3-2 week, D1Baseball moved the Horns up from No. 19 to No. 14 in its latest top 25.

Texas was the highest-ranked Big 12 team, two spots ahead of No. 16 Texas Tech. Those were the only two teams from the conference included in the most recent top 25, with TCU and Oklahoma State falling out. OSU was No. 18 while TCU was No. 25.

Teams on Texas’ schedule in the rankings include No. 1 LSU, No. 4 Vanderbilt, and No. 5 Arkansas.

The Longhorns host Abilene Christian on Wednesday before they welcome the Oklahoma Sooners for a three-game set. First pitch is on Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday’s game begins at 2:30 p.m. The series finale is Sunday, also at 2:30 p.m. Oklahoma is 4-8 in Big 12 play and 19-18 overall.
