USA TODAY released its two preseason All-American teams on Wednesday, and Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson was selected as one of two first team running backs.

Robinson, a sophomore out of Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic, joined Iowa State’s Breece Hall on the first-team. Those two are joined in the backfield by Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler.

This is Robinson’s second preseason All-American honor. In June, Walter Camp named the 6-foot-0, 214-pound ball-carrier to the organization’s second team.

Robinson played in nine games during the 2020 season, starting six times. He rushed 86 times for 703 yards and four scores. His 8.2 yards per carry broke a decades-old record set by Jimmy Saxton in 1961. Robinson also added 15 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns during his freshman campaign.

Six Big 12 players total made USA TODAY’s first team. In addition to Rattler, Hall, and Robinson, Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar, Oklahoma linebacker Nik Bonitto, and Iowa State linebacker Mike Rose made the list.

Kansas State running back and Round Rock native Deuce Vaughn was named the second-team running back. Iowa State safety Greg Eisworth was named to the second team, and Kansas State’s Phillip Brooks was the second-team returner.

Four Ohio State Buckeyes, including Lake Travis product Garrett Wilson, were selected by USA TODAY. Clemson led the nation with six selections.

More preseason accolades for Bijan Robinson

USA TODAY’s selection joins several other preseason accolades for Bijan Robinson.

In July, Robinson was named to watch lists for the Doak Walker Award and the Maxwell Award. The Doak Walker Award is given annually to the best running back in college football, while the Maxwell Award is given to the college player of the year.

Robinson was also named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year watchlist.
