After numerous trips to Texas, Brenen Thompson and his family made the flight to Austin for his official visit this weekend.

At 5-foot-10, 165, the On3 No. 24 overall for 2022 has seen plenty of schools during his recruitment. With official trips to Oregon, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M in June, Thompson made an unofficial visit to UT in late June. The Spearman speedster returned and wanted to see a game in the newly renovated DKR.

“We had a great time,” said Bonnie Thompson, Brenen’s mother and biggest supporter. “The coaching staff is amazing as we already knew. We felt like family.”

Bonnie Thompson was very descriptive in their stay on the Forty Acres.

“The atmosphere from the start as the entire coaching staff and personnel were always on the same page stood out,” said Thompson. “They were even finishing each other’s sentences. The coaches’ wives I met are amazing. As a mother, that warms my heart. I know Brenen would be taken care of on the field and off the field.

It was even more fun at halftime.

“We got to meet and visit with Jordan Shipley and that was so awesome,” Thompson explained. “Brenen had questions regarding putting a small town kid into city life, and Jordan was able to relate and assist Brenen with any hesitations. Bren loves the outdoors, so that’s important to him to continue hunting and fishing.

How was the game and overall experience?

The game day atmosphere was amazing,” said Thompson. “A very big stadium, but it was easy to maneuver and see the entire field. The fans love their Horns.”

Brenen’s best memory, per his mother Bonnie?

“During the Bevo Walk people recognized Brenen and wanted pics with him which was so very cool to witness,” Thompson said. “It was a great, great visit.”

Brenen Thompson has long said he wanted to wait until December/January for a decision, but there’s a sense he might decide sooner. He’s going to miss his senior year and is focusing on getting healthy for track season, chasing his 10.38 100 meters time.

He has a date in College Station for the Alabama-A&M game, and after that he’ll start really narrowing down his decision.

Texas moved the needle this weekend, with Brenen and his family. Stay the course, Horns.
