Overshown is a fifth-year linebacker from Arp (Texas), who has played in 38 career games and made 22 starts. In 2021, he started 10 games, leading the Longhorns in total tackles (74) and solo tackles (38), while adding (36) assists and being second in tackles for loss (5.5).

Overshown also notched two sacks, two fumble recoveries, had two pass-breakups last season. He tallied a career-high 13 (four solo) against Louisiana, eight tackles and two tackles-for-loss versus Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout.

Overshown has also been recognized on the Butkus Award preseason watch list and was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team for 2022. Overshown noted how why the Longhorns will win more close games in 2022 at the Big 12 Media Days on July 14th. He also noted why new Texas assistant Gary Patterson has had an impact on the UT defense this spring.

“Just coaching us up on the little things,” Overshown said. “Now, Coach Patterson’s is able to like, if you’re able to get him one on one, just dial up the small things that you don’t really get to cover in the meetings. The on-field, like, ‘Ok, if you do this, you really don’t have to take these extra steps to make that play.’ So, him coming from his resume, anything you get from here, you’re going to sit down and you’re going to listen.”

Former Longhorns’ Derrick Johnson and Brian Orakpo won the Nagurski Trophy in 2004 and 2008, respectively.

The winner of the 2022 Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be chosen from five finalists that will be announced by the FWAA and Charlotte Touchdown Club on Nov. 16 and the winner will be unveiled Dec. 5 at the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet in Charlotte, N.C. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the association’s full membership, selects a 26-man All-America Team and eventually the Nagurski Trophy finalists. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner will be chosen from the five finalists named in November. Committee members, by individual ballot, select the winner they regard as the best defensive player in college football.
